Scenario for what I thought to be the funniest moment in this musical: Voldemort pulls out his wand as he is ready to battle Harry in the cemetery, as we know from Goblet of Fire. To our shocking amusement, his wand is pink and princess-like, complete with a shiny star on the top. "The wand chooses the wizard, Harry..." So much for Voldemort being a tough guy!
If you are a fan of Harry Potter you will definitely love this show. Potted Potter is set up as a parody of the seven Harry Potter books and through the 70 or so minutes of the show, the two fine actors go through and act out the books. The show is quite interactive as well. The actors chose two kids from the audience to play seekers in a Quidditch match. The actors divided the audience into two teams, of course Gryffindor and Slytherin, and tossed a beach ball around everyone's head. It was quite amusing and the kids walked off with a chocolate frog.
Some of the hilarious highlights for me include the set up to the battle in the cemetery as mentioned in book four. The "Let's Get Ready to Rumble" song started playing and Voldemort came out with a muscle man costume. Then to follow the pink wand description as I noted above -- the audience was in true hysteria! Another highlight referenced book five when Dumbledore let Harry know of his prophecy. They way these two actors did this scene was brilliant. "One shall live and the other shall, die, die, die!" Lastly, the show wraps up with a sing off between Harry and Voldemort. The song they sing? "I Will Survive"!
Overall, this show was fantastic and worth the money spent. Sometimes it can be a little upsetting when you dish out mucho dinero for a theater show and it turns out to be lackluster. Not the case here, folks. I left feeling happy and cheerful! It must have been that butter beer cocktail I purchased on the way in...
